The hard anodized surface is brittle compared to the aluminum substrate. Sharp corners and high-stress concentrations cause cracking. Design for even stress distribution and minimum 0.5 mm corner radii on anodized features. Also note: hard anodize grows the surface, so critical dimensions must be machined with that growth in mind.
