Clear anodized aluminum preserves the natural aluminum appearance while adding the corrosion resistance, surface hardness, and durability that bare aluminum lacks. Unlike black or colored anodizing where the dye can fade over time, clear anodizing does not change color - it stays bright and clean through years of service even in harsh environments. The clear anodized layer is thin, typically 5 to 25 micrometers, but enough to protect against corrosion in most indoor and outdoor environments. For marine or coastal installations, the anodized surface holds up to salt air that would quickly dull bare aluminum. In food processing equipment, clear anodizing is easy to clean. 6063-T5 is the most common choice for architectural and general applications. The anodizing process does not mask surface imperfections - any scratches or machining marks show through.

Starting Surface Matters

 

Clear anodizing is transparent - it does not hide anything. A scratch on the bare aluminum will still be visible after anodizing. For architectural applications where appearance matters, the starting surface must be carefully controlled: no scratches, consistent texture, clean before anodizing.
