Forged flange shafts combine the shaft and flange as a single forging - eliminating the weld between separate shaft and flange components. The integrated forging provides superior strength compared to fabricated assemblies, with grain flow that follows the contour of the part rather than stopping at a weld joint. The flange is forged integral with the shaft - the entire cross-section is continuous forged grain structure. This means the flange can take higher loads without cracking at the weld root, and the shaft-flange junction handles more bending moment than a fabricated design.
