description

Black oxide screws have a dark black conversion coating on the steel surface - the result of chemical treatment that converts the steel surface to iron oxide while adding corrosion inhibitors. The coating is thin but provides good corrosion resistance for indoor applications, looks professional with the dark matte appearance, and does not add dimensional tolerance to the part. Black oxide is one of the most common fastener finishes in industrial equipment and machinery - the dark appearance hides scratches and wear better than polished steel, the corrosion resistance is adequate for indoor environments, and the cost is low compared to plating alternatives.

Hot Black Oxide vs. Cold Black Oxide

Hot black oxide produces a deeper, more consistent dark finish - the chemical reaction happens at near-boiling temperatures and produces a more uniform conversion coating. Cold blackening is done at room temperature and produces a thinner, less consistent coating with less corrosion resistance. For most industrial equipment applications, hot black oxide is the specification.

FAQ

Q1: MOQ?

A1: 50 pieces for standard screws.

Q2: Appearance?

A2: Dark black matte - hides scratches and wear well.

Q3: Corrosion resistance?

A3: Adequate for indoor environments. Better than bare steel but not as good as zinc plating.

Q4: Applications?

A4: Industrial equipment, machinery, consumer electronics - anywhere the dark appearance is preferred.

Q5: Hot vs. cold black oxide?

A5: Hot black oxide produces deeper black and better corrosion resistance.

Q6: Custom configurations?

A6: Yes. Custom sizes, thread specifications, materials (4037, 4340 for higher strength).

Quality is non-negotiable in precision manufacturing. Every component undergoes rigorous inspection at each stage of production.

  • ISO 9001:2015 - Certified quality management system covering design, machining, and inspection
  • CMM Inspection - Coordinate measuring for complex geometries and tight tolerances
  • Surface Roughness Measurement - Ra, Rz, and Rt charting with every inspection report
  • Passivation / Electropolishing - ASTM A967 procedures for corrosion resistance
  • Material Traceability - Heat number tracking from raw material to finished part
  • First Article Inspection (FAI) - Full dimensional report included with every new order

From raw material to finished product, every step is controlled and documented:

  • Material Preparation - CNC turning/milling to near-net shape
  • Heat Treatment - Through-hardening or case-hardening for strength-critical parts
  • Surface Preparation - Degreasing, acid cleaning, and surface activation
  • Electroplating - Controlled bath process with thickness monitoring
  • Sealing / Baking - Chrome sealing, anodize sealing, or hydrogen embrittlement relief baking
  • Inspection - Coating thickness measurement, adhesion testing, and visual check
  • Packaging - Protective interleaving, VCI packaging, and anti-tarnish wrapping
