description

Forged engine connecting rods are the product of choice for engines that see high loads and high RPM - the forging process produces grain flow aligned with the loading, better material density than casting, and mechanical properties that make forged rods the standard in performance and heavy-duty applications. Closed-die forging produces the I-beam cross-section efficiently, with the beam profile optimized to handle bending loads with minimum weight. The cap and rod are separate forgings that are machined and assembled with screws or bolts. 1045 carbon steel handles stock automotive and truck applications. 4340 alloy steel is the material for racing and high-performance diesel where maximum strength and fatigue resistance are required.

Why Shot Peening Is Standard for Performance Rods

The compressive stress on the beam surface from shot peening delays fatigue crack initiation under cyclic loading. The stress concentration at the rod bolt holes and beam fillets is managed by good radius design and quality machining. If you are buying forged rods for a high-RPM application, shot peening is not optional - it is the difference between a rod that lasts and one that fails.

FAQ

Q1: MOQ?

A1: 10 pieces.

Q2: Materials?

A2: 1045, 5140 carbon steel. 4340 alloy for racing and heavy-duty.

Q3: Heat treatment?

A3: Normalized or Q&T. Shot peening standard for performance rods.

Q4: Inspection?

A4: 100% magnetic particle inspection. Dimensional report with each shipment.

Q5: Custom configurations?

A5: Yes. Custom rod length, big end ID, small end ID, beam profile, bolt size.

Q6: I-beam vs. H-beam?

A6: I-beam is lighter for the same strength. H-beam is stronger for the same section size - we help select based on your application.

Quality is non-negotiable in precision manufacturing. Every component undergoes rigorous inspection at each stage of production.

  • IATF 16949 - Automotive quality management system for safety-critical components
  • PPAP / PPF - Production Part Approval Process documentation available on request
  • AIAG Core Tools - APQP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA documentation on demand
  • CMM Inspection - Coordinate measuring for complex geometries and tight tolerances
  • Surface Roughness Measurement - Ra, Rz, and Rt charting with every inspection report
  • Passivation / Electropolishing - ASTM A967 procedures for corrosion resistance
  • Material Traceability - Heat number tracking from raw material to finished part

From raw material to finished product, every step is controlled and documented:

  • Pattern Making - Wooden or metal pattern fabrication for sand/centrifugal/investment casting
  • Molding - Sand casting, shell mold, centrifugal, or lost-wax investment casting setup
  • Melting & Pouring - Controlled furnace melting with chemistry and temperature monitoring
  • Solidification & Shakeout - Controlled cooling with riser/removal and core shakeout
  • Heat Treatment - Annealing, normalizing, or solution treatment per specification
  • Machining - CNC machining, drilling, and tapping to final dimensions
  • Surface Treatment - Grinding, welding, or coating as required
  • Inspection & Testing - Dimensional, visual, hydrostatic, or NDT inspection
  • Cleaning & Packaging - Sand removal, degreasing, rust prevention, and packaging
