Nickel plated thumb screws combine the tool-free convenience of thumb screws with the superior corrosion resistance and wear resistance of electroless nickel plating. Where zinc plating might white rust in humid environments or chemical exposure, electroless nickel holds up - making these the preferred choice for outdoor equipment, chemical processing, and marine applications. Electroless nickel plating is more uniform than electroplated nickel - it coats evenly on all surfaces including inside holes and recesses. The finish is also harder and more wear-resistant than zinc, making it a better choice for applications where the thumb screw sees repeated hand adjustment.
Electroless Nickel vs. Zinc Plating
Electroless nickel costs more than zinc but lasts longer in harsh environments. Zinc provides sacrificial protection - it corrodes preferentially to protect the steel.
