Steel mounting plates give motors, pumps, and gearboxes a flat, stable platform to bolt to. The plate soaks up vibration, handles surface irregularities in the mounting foundation, and creates a mounting interface that can be removed and re-used - which matters when equipment needs to come off for service. 1045 and 4140 carbon steel handle most industrial applications. 304 and 316 stainless for environments where carbon steel would rust and eventually compromise mounting accuracy.
