anodizings

About This Service

Anodizing converts the surface of aluminum into a hard, corrosion-resistant oxide layer. Type II decorative (5-25 micrometer) for full color range. Type III hard (25-75 micrometer) for industrial wear resistance up to 600 HV.

6 Aluminum Alloys We Anodize

Not all aluminum alloys anodize the same. We recommend the best alloy for cosmetic or industrial requirements.

6061 - Best Overall

Anodizes uniformly, accepts all colors. Smooth surface for cosmetic applications. The default choice for most projects.

6063 - Architectural

Smooth surface, ideal for window frames, lighting, and architectural trim. Excellent color uniformity.

5052 - Marine Grade

Excellent corrosion resistance. All colors work well. Used for marine and outdoor enclosures.

7075 - High Strength

Color variation due to zinc content. Recommend dark colors only. Used for aerospace and high-strength parts.

2024 - High Strength

Poor color uniformity. Avoid for cosmetic applications. High copper content causes issues.

Cast Aluminum

Limited results. Avoid if possible. Porosity causes pitting in the anodized layer.

5 Steps of Our Anodizing Process

Each step is critical for color uniformity, coating thickness, and corrosion resistance.

Pretreatment

Degreasing, etching (caustic soda), and desmutting (acid bath). Removes surface oils, oxides, and alloying elements that would interfere with anodizing.

01

Anodizing

Type II: sulfuric acid bath at 18-22 degrees C, 12-20 V, 30-60 minutes. Type III: lower temperature, higher voltage, longer time. Process controlled by computer.

02

Coloring (Type II only)

Dipped in dye bath or electrolytic coloring. Type II supports 2,000+ colors. Type III limited to dark colors due to dense oxide structure.

03

Sealing

Hot water or nickel acetate seal closes the pores in the oxide layer. Critical for corrosion resistance and color fastness. Improper sealing = fading and corrosion.

04

Inspection and Shipping

Eddy current thickness gauge, spectrophotometer for color, seal quality test. Documentation with every order. 5-7 day lead time for standard, 7-10 for custom.

05

Why Choose Our Anodizing

Free Color Sample

Sample panel for approval before production. Custom dye 3-5 days. Refundable on production over 1,000 USD.

Up to 600 HV Hardness

Type III hard anodizing reaches 400-600 HV. Comparable to hard chrome. Excellent wear resistance.

1,000+ Hour Salt Spray

Properly sealed anodized parts pass 1,000+ hours ASTM B117. Corrosion-proof for outdoor use.

6 Alloys Supported

6061, 6063, 5052, 7075, 2024, cast aluminum. We recommend the best alloy for cosmetic or industrial.

RoHS + REACH Compliant

No hexavalent chromium. EU environmental standards met. Documentation on request.

Color Match with Spectrophotometer

Delta E less than 1.0 verified per batch. Approved sample panel becomes the color reference standard.
