description

Aluminum wheel hubs connect the wheel to the vehicle's drivetrain - the hub carries the wheel load, transmits drive torque from the differential to the wheel, and positions the wheel relative to the suspension. A hub that deflects under load causes wheel runout, which creates vibration at speed. Forged aluminum hubs are the strongest option - the grain flow from forging produces higher strength than casting. A356-T6 cast wheel hubs are common on production vehicles where cost matters more than minimum weight. CNC machining from billet is used for custom and racing applications where the geometry does not fit standard forging or casting designs.

Why Hub Flange Pilot Matters

The hub flange pilot - the surface that centers the wheel on the hub - must be machined concentric with the bearing bore. If the pilot diameter is off, the wheel never seats properly and will run out regardless of how carefully the lug nuts are torqued. The pilot diameter tolerance is tighter than the lug hole pattern for this reason.

FAQ

Q1: MOQ?

A1: 10 pieces for aluminum wheel hubs.

Q2: Materials?

A2: A356-T6 cast (production), 6061-T6 forged (performance).

Q3: Manufacturing methods?

A3: Forging (highest strength), casting (cost-effective), CNC machining from billet (custom).

Q4: Pilot diameter tolerances?

A4: Critical - machined to ±0.02 mm to ensure proper wheel seating.

Q5: Surface options?

A5: Machined face, polished, powder coated.

Q6: Custom configurations?

A6: Yes. Custom bolt patterns, pilot diameters, hub widths.

Quality is non-negotiable in precision manufacturing. Every component undergoes rigorous inspection at each stage of production.

  • IATF 16949 - Automotive quality management system for safety-critical components
  • PPAP / PPF - Production Part Approval Process documentation available on request
  • AIAG Core Tools - APQP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA documentation on demand
  • CMM Inspection - Coordinate measuring for complex geometries and tight tolerances
  • Surface Roughness Measurement - Ra, Rz, and Rt charting with every inspection report
  • Passivation / Electropolishing - ASTM A967 procedures for corrosion resistance
  • Material Traceability - Heat number tracking from raw material to finished part

From raw material to finished product, every step is controlled and documented:

  • Pattern Making - Wooden or metal pattern fabrication for sand/centrifugal/investment casting
  • Molding - Sand casting, shell mold, centrifugal, or lost-wax investment casting setup
  • Melting & Pouring - Controlled furnace melting with chemistry and temperature monitoring
  • Solidification & Shakeout - Controlled cooling with riser/removal and core shakeout
  • Heat Treatment - Annealing, normalizing, or solution treatment per specification
  • Machining - CNC machining, drilling, and tapping to final dimensions
  • Surface Treatment - Grinding, welding, or coating as required
  • Inspection & Testing - Dimensional, visual, hydrostatic, or NDT inspection
  • Cleaning & Packaging - Sand removal, degreasing, rust prevention, and packaging
