description

Knurled cup point set screws are the adjustment and fixture fasteners - the knurled cup point bites into the mating material and holds the screw in place without a nut. These are used for clamping fixtures, setting collar positions, and any application where a screw bears directly against a component to hold it in place. The knurled cup point provides grip against the mating surface - the knurl pattern bites into the material and prevents the screw from slipping under load. The cup point is the standard choice for soft materials like aluminum, plastic, or mild steel where a plain point would simply slide. 4140 alloy steel is the standard material - the point is heat treated to Rc 45-55 for the hardness needed to bite into the mating material without deforming. 303 and 304 stainless provide corrosion resistance for outdoor or wash-down applications.

When the Knurled Cup Point Actually Bites

The knurl works by biting into the surface - it is effective on aluminum, mild steel, and plastics. On hardened steel (Rc 45 and above), the knurl will not bite; use a flat point or cone point instead. On stainless steel, the knurl will bite but may work-harden the surface over time - retightening may be needed. The key: if you can-gouge the surface with a pick, the knurled cup point will grip. If you cannot, switch to a different point style.

FAQ

Q1: MOQ?

A1: 50 pieces for standard set screws.

Q2: Materials?

A2: 4140 alloy steel (standard). 303, 304 stainless (corrosion resistance).

Q3: Point style?

A3: Knurled cup point - the standard for gripping soft materials.

Q4: Drive types?

A4: Hex socket standard. Torx available for higher torque.

Q5: Point hardness?

A5: Rc 45-55 on the cup point - sufficient to bite into aluminum and mild steel.

Q6: Custom configurations?

A6: Yes. Custom lengths, thread specifications, point styles.

Quality is non-negotiable in precision manufacturing. Every component undergoes rigorous inspection at each stage of production.

  • ISO 9001:2015 - Certified quality management system covering design, machining, and inspection
  • Passivation / Electropolishing - ASTM A967 procedures for corrosion resistance
  • Material Traceability - Heat number tracking from raw material to finished part
  • First Article Inspection (FAI) - Full dimensional report included with every new order

From raw material to finished product, every step is controlled and documented:

  • Wire / Bar Preparation - Cold heading or CNC blanking to near-net shape
  • Thread Rolling / Cutting - Thread rolling for rolled threads or die cutting for cut threads
  • Heat Treatment - Case-hardening or through-hardening for strength requirement
  • Surface Treatment - Plating, coating, or passivation as specified
  • Final Inspection - Dimensional check, torque testing, and surface inspection
  • Packaging - Bulk bag, polybag, or plastic tub with labeling and traceability
