Brushed aluminum covers have the directional fine-line texture that brushed finishing produces - the signature look familiar from consumer electronics, architectural hardware, and industrial equipment panels. The directional texture hides scratches and fingerprints better than mirror finish, and the metallic sheen gives a premium appearance. The brushed finish is achieved by running an abrasive belt or wheel along the surface in one direction - producing consistent parallel lines. Finer abrasives produce a finer, more subtle texture; coarser abrasives produce more visible lines. 6061-T6 aluminum provides good strength and machinability for covers that need to withstand handling and mounting stress. 5052-H32 aluminum is more formable and corrosion-resistant - the better choice for complex curved surfaces or marine applications.

Why Brushed Hides Scratches Better Than Mirror

 

The directional lines of a brushed finish break up the visual continuity of a scratch - a scratch perpendicular to the grain is still noticeable, but a scratch parallel to the grain is far less visible.
