description

Suspension control arms connect the vehicle body or frame to the suspension knuckles - positioning the wheel and controlling motion through the suspension travel range. The control arm must be strong enough to handle cornering loads, brake torques, and road impacts without bending, and flexible enough to allow the suspension to move through its travel without binding. Steel control arms are the traditional choice - formable, weldable, and strong. Tube forming produces lightweight arms with good torsional rigidity. Forging produces higher-strength arms with better grain flow. Aluminum control arms reduce unsprung weight - the weight that affects how well the wheels follow road irregularities. In performance applications, reduced unsprung weight improves handling response.

Unsprung Weight and Handling

The suspension's job is to keep the tire in contact with the road. Unsprung weight - wheels, brakes, and suspension components not supported by the spring - works against this goal. The heavier the unsprung weight, the more the wheel bounces over road irregularities. Aluminum control arms reduce unsprung weight, which measurably improves ride quality and handling response.

Quality is non-negotiable in precision manufacturing. Every component undergoes rigorous inspection at each stage of production.

  • IATF 16949 - Automotive quality management system for safety-critical components
  • PPAP / PPF - Production Part Approval Process documentation available on request
  • AIAG Core Tools - APQP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA documentation on demand
  • Material Traceability - Mill test reports, heat treatment records, and certificates of conformance for every batch

From raw material to finished product, every step is controlled and documented:

  • Billet Heating - Precision heating to forging temperature with temperature monitoring
  • Forging - Closed-die, open-die, or ring rolling to near-net shape
  • Trimming / Piercing - Flash removal and bore operations
  • Heat Treatment - Through-hardening, case-hardening, or age-hardening as required
  • Finishing Machining - CNC machining, grinding, or super-finishing to final dimensions
  • Surface Treatment - Anodizing, plating, or shot peening as specified
  • Inspection & Testing - Dimensional check, hardness testing, surface inspection
  • Cleaning & Packaging - Degreasing, rust prevention, and protective packaging
