E-coated thumb screws have an electrophoretic coating applied by dipping the parts in a paint bath with an applied electrical field - the field causes paint particles to deposit uniformly across all surfaces, including inside holes and recesses that spray coating cannot reach. The result is complete, uniform coverage with consistent thickness on every part. The e-coat thickness is typically 15 to 25 micrometers - thinner than powder coating but more uniformly applied. Black is the standard color. The e-coat can be applied over zinc-plated parts for enhanced corrosion resistance, or directly over prepared steel.

Why E-Coat Rather Than Powder Coat

 

E-coating coats inside bores and threaded holes - powder coating, applied by spray, cannot get inside a small bore. For fasteners with internal threads, e-coating is the only practical way to get complete coverage in one coat. E-coat also has better edge coverage than spray-applied coatings.
