description
Self drilling screws drill their own hole and tap their own thread - the point has a drilling flute that cuts through steel or aluminum, and the thread cuts the mating material's thread as the screw drives in. One tool, one operation, no pre-drilling. This makes self drilling screws the standard for steel framing, HVAC ductwork, roofing, and any sheet metal connection where speed matters. The drill point must be matched to the material thickness - light-duty self drillers work in thin sheet metal and decking. Heavy-duty self drillers handle thicker structural steel sections. The drill point geometry determines how quickly the point penetrates and how cleanly it cuts the hole without tearing the material. Carbon steel self drillers are zinc plated for indoor use or Ruspert coated for outdoor and corrosive environments - the coating protects the screw through storage and installation. 410 stainless self drillers provide the corrosion resistance of stainless with the drilling capability needed for harder materials.

The Point-to-Thickness Match
If the point is too small for the material thickness, the drill won't penetrate - or will jam and break. If the point is too large for thin material, it tears the hole instead of cutting it cleanly. Match the point designation to the steel thickness before ordering: 1/4" steel needs a #3 or #4 point minimum. HVAC ductwork (typically 22-26 gauge) works fine with a #2 point. Structural steel (3/16" and up) needs heavy-duty drillers with the appropriate point size.

FAQ
Q1: MOQ?
A1: 100 pieces for standard self drilling screws.
Q2: Point types?
A2: Type 17 and Tek point - selection depends on material thickness.
Q3: Materials?
A3: Carbon steel (standard) and 410 stainless (corrosion resistance).
Q4: Coating options?
A4: Zinc plated (indoor), hot-dip galvanized, Ruspert, geomete (outdoor).
Q5: Head styles?
A5: Hex, pan, wafer, and other styles - selection depends on application.
Q6: Thickness capacity?
A6: Light-duty for thin sheet metal. Heavy-duty for structural steel sections.
Quality is non-negotiable in precision manufacturing. Every component undergoes rigorous inspection at each stage of production.
- ISO 9001:2015 - Certified quality management system covering design, machining, and inspection
- Passivation / Electropolishing - ASTM A967 procedures for corrosion resistance
- Material Traceability - Heat number tracking from raw material to finished part
- First Article Inspection (FAI) - Full dimensional report included with every new order
From raw material to finished product, every step is controlled and documented:
- Material Preparation - CNC turning/milling to near-net shape
- Heat Treatment - Through-hardening or case-hardening for strength-critical parts
- Surface Preparation - Degreasing, acid cleaning, and surface activation
- Electroplating - Controlled bath process with thickness monitoring
- Sealing / Baking - Chrome sealing, anodize sealing, or hydrogen embrittlement relief baking
- Inspection - Coating thickness measurement, adhesion testing, and visual check
- Packaging - Protective interleaving, VCI packaging, and anti-tarnish wrapping
