description

Optical mount brackets position and hold optical elements - lenses, mirrors, filters, sensors - with the precision that optical systems demand. Even small movements in the optical path cause alignment errors that degrade system performance, so the bracket has to hold position through temperature changes, vibration, and thermal cycling. Aluminum 6061-T6 is the most common choice - lightweight, dimensionally stable, and takes black anodizing well. The black anodized surface reduces stray light reflections that would add noise to the optical signal. Electropolished stainless steel brackets handle cleanroom environments and applications where outgassing or particle generation must be minimized.

Thermal Expansion - The Invisible Misalignment Source

Aluminum expands about 23 μm per meter per degree Celsius. In a precision optical system, a 50 mm bracket that warms by 10°C during operation shifts the optical element by 2.3 μm - enough to noticeably degrade resolution in high-precision systems. Stainless steel expands at about half that rate. We account for this during material and geometry selection for temperature-sensitive applications.

Quality is non-negotiable in precision manufacturing. Every component undergoes rigorous inspection at each stage of production.

  • ISO 9001:2015 - Certified quality management system covering design, machining, and inspection
  • CMM Inspection - Coordinate measuring for complex geometries and tight tolerances
  • Surface Roughness Measurement - Ra, Rz, and Rt charting with every inspection report
  • Passivation / Electropolishing - ASTM A967 procedures for corrosion resistance
  • Material Traceability - Heat number tracking from raw material to finished part
  • MIL-A-8625 - Military-specification anodizing for aluminum components
  • Coating Thickness Testing - Coating weight and thickness verification per MIL spec
  • Salt Spray Testing - 1000-hour ASTM B117 corrosion resistance verification available
  • First Article Inspection (FAI) - Full dimensional report included with every new order

From raw material to finished product, every step is controlled and documented:

  • Material Preparation - CNC turning/milling to near-net shape
  • Heat Treatment - Through-hardening or case-hardening for strength-critical parts
  • Surface Preparation - Degreasing, acid cleaning, and surface activation
  • Anodizing - Controlled bath process with thickness monitoring
  • Sealing / Baking - Chrome sealing, anodize sealing, or hydrogen embrittlement relief baking
  • Inspection - Coating thickness measurement, adhesion testing, and visual check
  • Packaging - Protective interleaving, VCI packaging, and anti-tarnish wrapping
