Machined bushings provide wear-resistant bearing surfaces in linear and rotary applications - wherever moving parts need to slide or rotate with minimal friction and precise guidance. The bushing material, surface finish, and lubrication all determine how long the assembly runs before maintenance is needed. Bronze bushings handle most general industrial applications - good machinability, reasonable cost, adequate wear resistance for moderate loads and speeds. Brass bushing offer better corrosion resistance and are common in instrumentation and marine applications. Steel and stainless steel bushings take on higher loads and more demanding environments. Oil-impregnated bronze bushings (sintered bronze) provide self-lubricating operation - the pores in the sintered material hold oil that releases under load, eliminating the need for external lubrication systems.

Bronze: good all-around, machines well, moderate cost. Brass: better corrosion resistance, common in marine and instrumentation.
